Epilogue—Da Capo Al Fine

‘Ginny sent new pictures of James-Hermes. And Harry threatens to err…’ Hermione blushed.

‘Hex my bollocks off and serve them to me for lunch if we don’t attend the very same occasion next Sunday?’ Severus supplied with a snort.

Hermione laughed. ‘Something like that.’

‘All right. We’ll be there. Now, where are those ridiculous plants that you absolutely have to show me?’

‘Here.’ Hermione pointed at a meadow overflowing with blooming daffodils. ‘Look how many of them there are! Do you remember what that means?’

Of course he did. He would never forget their wedding day. ‘Joy and happiness,’ he replied, his voice very soft.

‘One day,’ Hermione said, her eyes filled with quiet determination, ‘maybe not tomorrow or next week…’

How Severus regretted the lines in her young face. How he mourned the lack of sparkle in her eyes. The absence of the shrill lilt of enthusiasm in her voice.

‘…maybe not even next year.’ She offered him a wry smile.

But she reached for him. Her almost spidery thin, always cold fingers curled around his hand. Her smile turned wistful. It was too bitter yet to be called hopeful, but there was a new hint of sweetness to it that had been missing since her rescue.

Hermione stepped into Severus’ embrace, her face turned up, her eyes never leaving his. ‘But I do believe that one day, one day, we’ll be fine.’

She drew his hand up to her lips and kissed his fingers.

‘Just fine.’

Oh. My. Word. Just spent two days totally devouring your story. What a truly satisfying tale. The intimate moments were perfectly described and exactly what I hoped for. Thank you for sharing your unique perspective. I feel empty now that it is over! Well done, and I look forward to reading more of your work!

Amazing story, fantastic characterisation, your OC wasn’t overpowering or unbelievable, one of the best epic length SS/HG fics I’ve ever read. Now I’m off to read the sequel. Congrats for keeping my attention waaaay better than JK.

This was an absolute pleasure to read. I loved every part of your story, but my favorite part was your characterization. Each character made me laugh or cry, and each one made me want to meet them and talk to them- ask them questions and listen. Thank you for creating such a compelling tale! Now, I’m off to find the sequel!!!

Thank YOU for reading and for taking the time to leave so many lovely comments. That really made my day(s) during the last week. I’m really happy you enjoyed the story so much, and I hope you’ll also like what there is of the sequel so far. And before you ask — no, it’s not abandoned (because I know what will happen next) but sadly I also don’t know when I’ll have the time to pick it up again. 🙁 Life and jobs and things happen, unfortunately.

Love this. This is my 3rd reading of it since the early days (it was completed when I was newly married) and now I have a child. Hence my responses to it have also changed. It’s still one of the best fics I’ve ever read and I’m still waiting for The Book Of The Dead to be completed… is there still hope of that happening? 🙂

I must say that one of the things I appreciate most about your writing is the lack of grammatical and spelling errors. They are a pet peeve of mine as I’m a writer and editor and sometimes, I stop reading a fic that has a good plot because I just can’t take the grammar and spelling. Haha. Thanks for making the effort to do a good clean job on top of coming up with a really great story. 😀

Oh, wow, to have a reader come back, especially after years is one of the best compliments ever. Thank you so much for that, and for your kind words.

I definitely still hope that I’ll get around to finishing all my unfinished stories at some point! Maybe once I’ve won the lottery… Or have found a wealthy patron to pay me for writing fanfic. 😉

I’m really glad to hear that the quality of writing is up to scratch — as a professional translator, editor, and writer, I always do my best to maintain a solid standard of SPAG, and especially consistent punctuation…

Thank you again for your lovely compliment, and take care!

As Alina would write, ‘WOW!’ This is an absolutely wonderful story, and I’m glad to have had the pleasure of reading it. I read something about unfinished sequel in one of the other reviews and will now go hunt that down. Perhaps it’ll answer the questions I have… Will Harry regain his sight? How about Alina and her hearing/speech? Will Hermione and Snape ever have children? Will Draco ever be taken beyond the veil? Is Neville with Hannah? What about his crush on the Flamel girl? And didn’t Vaisey have a thing for Alina? What ended up happening to Dumbledore’s portrait? Who are the necromancers that were with Umbridge? Why doesn’t Snape have his own set of bells? Will Hermione do magic? Get new wands? Gahhhh!!! Lol, so many questions 😉

Once again this was a most wonderful story. Thank you so much for sharing it with the world 🙂

I’m sorry I reply to your lovely comment only now — time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like bananas etc. Anyway, I’m so glad that you enjoyed my virtual penny dreadful, and I hope that the questions left at the end were more intriguing than frustrating. And I still hope that one day I’ll finish the sequel (when I’ve won the lottery and don’t need to work anymore, for example…). Take care!

I’ve very much enjoyed my journey through your tale – both times. It must have been several years ago when I first read it, because even though I kept recognizing events, I didn’t see them coming.
Death Personified was fun to read.
And it was nice that you didn’t see Hermione’s and Severus’ flaws, physical or otherwise, as roadblocks to their roles as sympathetic characters.
Harry and Draco and Alina, even Ron and Lois were nicely developed despite their limited time center-stage.
Thank you for sharing your time and talent.

Hi I followed your link from ff.net. im sorry I’ve never left a comment on the stories ive read before but I have to leave one here for your wonderful story. I have to admit its wuite a sad ending in that Hermione doesnt pick up the wand, in a way it half hers ans she and Sev( yeah I loved how Harry called him Sev… had to stifle a snort as I read this straight thorough only took me 4 days bar cooking and ckeaning and work and sleep 🙂 ) . The two of them are married and what is his is hers, and they are sister wands if you like. never thought a wand a a she before . But your story was lovely, full of intrigue , malice for umbridge and glad she got her come uppance 😀 . I felt sad for Draco hoped he would have his day with his Parents even if it was to say he was happy with Hannah. I really enjoyd the story and your lovely writing . Thank you for writing it *hugs*

Thank you so much for reading, and even more for going out of your way and taking the time and effort to leave a comment. That really means a lot to me! It’s been years, but I still remember that it was hard to write the sad parts of this story, and harder still not to write a 110% happy ending. But just like when I wrote it, I’m still convinced that for Sev and Hermione in this story, in the end everything will be all right. Thank you for reading & take care!
