Epilogue—Da Capo Al Fine

‘Ginny sent new pictures of James-Hermes. And Harry threatens to err…’ Hermione blushed.

‘Hex my bollocks off and serve them to me for lunch if we don’t attend the very same occasion next Sunday?’ Severus supplied with a snort.

Hermione laughed. ‘Something like that.’

‘All right. We’ll be there. Now, where are those ridiculous plants that you absolutely have to show me?’

‘Here.’ Hermione pointed at a meadow overflowing with blooming daffodils. ‘Look how many of them there are! Do you remember what that means?’

Of course he did. He would never forget their wedding day. ‘Joy and happiness,’ he replied, his voice very soft.

‘One day,’ Hermione said, her eyes filled with quiet determination, ‘maybe not tomorrow or next week…’

How Severus regretted the lines in her young face. How he mourned the lack of sparkle in her eyes. The absence of the shrill lilt of enthusiasm in her voice.

‘…maybe not even next year.’ She offered him a wry smile.

But she reached for him. Her almost spidery thin, always cold fingers curled around his hand. Her smile turned wistful. It was too bitter yet to be called hopeful, but there was a new hint of sweetness to it that had been missing since her rescue.

Hermione stepped into Severus’ embrace, her face turned up, her eyes never leaving his. ‘But I do believe that one day, one day, we’ll be fine.’

She drew his hand up to her lips and kissed his fingers.

‘Just fine.’

I had a very nice time going through this extremely well written book. Very nice concept – something which I haven’t read before !!!
Loved the easy diction and the rhythm of the story itself…
On some occasions I felt as if too much has been skipped in the timeline and something more could have been written though the current story holds too !!! (for eg – some details about Hermione’s rescue).
All in all a great book which can be read by people who haven’t read any of HP’s books also….have already recommended it to a few friends.
    Keep up the good work.
    Cheers.

The Fates must have prevented me from finding your story before now. I desperately needed a happy, fun distraction for the last two weeks, and this story was absolutely magnificent. You are a gifted storyteller, and you got the tone and pacing of a proper penny dreadful down perfectly. Thank you so very much for a lovely experience.

Thank you so much for this story. I have loved every chapter. It has shortened many long days, and even a night or two. =) The characters are true to themselves, while still developing, and the story has been interesting; I enjoyed both the wand lore and the history bits. I bow to your talent, and I am looking forward to reading more from you!

Read it straight through. This is absolutely fantasic. Well composed, well researched, and never a dull moment where i wanted to skip ahead and just move on with it. My only “down” was that hermione was gone so long with severus apparently doing nothing. At least, it felt that way. The sequence of events feels right but the time span of a year and a half seems overdone. Also, why did you choose to have the bells of the same material as each other? Just out of curiosity . Some of the material I’ve read has the bells of all different things to represent their connections but i liked the silver and mahogany symbolism. Other than that, this was probably one of the most well rounded fics I’ve ever had the pleasure to come across. Much better than any dreck i could ever come up with I’ll admit to that! 😉

Thank you for reading, and even more for taking the time to leave a comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the story. 🙂 I understand that it was hard to take how long Severus couldn’t do anything … but that was kind of the point of that part of the story — I wanted to depict a situation where there’s not much anyone can do instead of providing a quick, flashy superheroes resolution. As for the bells, I think I thought that silver and mahogany fit the symbolism of HP dark arts. But since I wrote that story in 2007, I’m afraid I simply don’t remember all the ramifications of all the details anymore. LOL

I’ve started reading this fics many many months ago, in FF.Net I think, but never got to read it all. Don’t know why I stopped. Anyway, looking for SSHG recs online I stumbled into it again on AO3 (have you finished publishing it there? It says only 99 chapters so far…) and from there I clicked on the link to your website. Well, finally got to read it all! w00t
Anyway, just wanted to leave a kudo. I like the way your plot develops, I like the way you work the characters and I like the fact that not everything is roses with you (like so many fics out there that give a happy ending to every character alive and that makes me mad, because not everyone is happy at the same time in real life and I think it a little silly to force it on fanfics). OK, everyone has the right to write what they want, but let’s have some realism or the story becomes quite abstract and not really believable, at least in my opinion. So Ron’s arm, Harry’s eyes, Alina’s voice and hearing, every little one of these things make it more real. Hermione’s hesitation to come back to her own magic too.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know it’s a wonderful work, a beautiful reading, and that you made me look Garth Nix’s Abhorsen trilogy online to read (LOL, I love his Seventh Tower series, read it a looooong time ago but damn, it was good!).
    Good work!
