Epilogue—Da Capo Al Fine

‘Ginny sent new pictures of James-Hermes. And Harry threatens to err…’ Hermione blushed.

‘Hex my bollocks off and serve them to me for lunch if we don’t attend the very same occasion next Sunday?’ Severus supplied with a snort.

Hermione laughed. ‘Something like that.’

‘All right. We’ll be there. Now, where are those ridiculous plants that you absolutely have to show me?’

‘Here.’ Hermione pointed at a meadow overflowing with blooming daffodils. ‘Look how many of them there are! Do you remember what that means?’

Of course he did. He would never forget their wedding day. ‘Joy and happiness,’ he replied, his voice very soft.

‘One day,’ Hermione said, her eyes filled with quiet determination, ‘maybe not tomorrow or next week…’

How Severus regretted the lines in her young face. How he mourned the lack of sparkle in her eyes. The absence of the shrill lilt of enthusiasm in her voice.

‘…maybe not even next year.’ She offered him a wry smile.

But she reached for him. Her almost spidery thin, always cold fingers curled around his hand. Her smile turned wistful. It was too bitter yet to be called hopeful, but there was a new hint of sweetness to it that had been missing since her rescue.

Hermione stepped into Severus’ embrace, her face turned up, her eyes never leaving his. ‘But I do believe that one day, one day, we’ll be fine.’

She drew his hand up to her lips and kissed his fingers.

‘Just fine.’

Great story, thank you. Awful pictures though

Just wanted to say that this is the absoulute first fanfic I have ever read, and I think I’m hooked. I have throughly enjoyed each chapter even with the sadness. If a story doesn’t make you feel something, it’s not worth reading. Well your story certainly made me feel. Cried on my keyboard a few times and laughed at others. YOu are an incredibly talented writer and I look forward to reading Book of the Dead.
    Thanks again. 🙂

Wow, it makes me so proud to know that I was your “first” … in terms of fanfic! 😀

I’m very happy you liked Apprentice, and maybe I’ll see you around for BoD? That is, once offline life lets off and I can write more… *sigh*

This was a wonderful story. I loved all the references to other timeless works of literature. I especially appreciated that you ended the story on a hopeful note, but not with an “all is back to normal and everyone is perfect again” ending. Such is life that we are not the same when something significant happens and you captured that beautifully. I never really get around to commenting on fan fiction but I could not walk away from this one. Thank you.

Thank you for reading, and even more for caring enough to leave a comment!

I am very happy that you enjoyed the story. Especially, that you appreciated the not-so-sugarcoated ending.

Fantastic story! You’ve managed to make Snape human, but maintain the sarcastic, abrasive personality that makes him unique. Too many fics have him sprouting poetry or something and it just seems weird.
I liked the ending – it wasn’t cliche, but it still gave the feeling of optimism.
And very interesting incorporation of the Church – I love when authors draw on ideas beyond what has been provided in Rowling’s books, and you’ve done a great job of that as well.
    Thanks!

I just finished a marathon session of reading this incredible story. I couldn’t stop! I had to know what would happen. I wish the ending had been happier but… it was more realistic this way. Poor everybody! This was a tough one.

I expected Severus to use the bells on Alina and Harry. I thought there was something about the bells making people able to speak and hear?

Anyway, regardless this was really beautiful and well written. It was also very satisfying. Not just a “and then they got together and lived happily ever after.” It was nice to see them living in their marriage and growing.

    Thanks for a great story!

      Thank YOU for reading.

And yeah, I agree I left some openings in Apprentice. But that’s because I am still hoping that offline life lets me continue the sequel sometime this year …

    Hi,

at first, im sorry for all ununderstandable sentences, but I’m no native Speaker. ^^”
I’ve needet month to read all of your story, after each new shock I needet somtimes weeks to decide to continue, because all your story didn’t seem to have a happy ending.
So I’m quite happy with the end you’ve made. I still can’t decide wheather it’s good or bad, but it’s really not the worst case.
In the last chapters I’ve been hoping, that there would be a better ending für Hermione, in the actual ending I really feel sorry for her.
For all others too, but I think they can handle it much better than Hermione. Sche seems so much without future now, but at least you gave some hope.
I liked your story from the beginnin on and I’m glad that there were happy moments all through it even if you did every worst case development I could imagine.
I liked, how Hermione and Snape got closer in a mass of chapters and I also liked how you dealt with Ron.
In most fanfictions he’s such an Idiot, but you made ist very well, he seems really as old as he should be 🙂
In fact I like the way you showed all original Characters, they yust don’t seem so flat and one-aspect orientated like so often. They have so many dimensions, they are so human. You did not even create a Mary-Sue all your owm characters have their good and bad sides and are just like human.
I really liked reading, how you dealt with the suspictions of your reader and everything 🙂
If I had more time I would translate it for any further reading, because now I sometimes missed a lot of words. But I think it really helped me to understand a bit more in english^^
So I can just say, that I enjoyed reading.
    Thank you.

Thank you very much for reading, and for taking the time to leave such a long comment. I’m happy that you kept reading in spite of all the turns from the worst. And yes, I agree, even though there is hope at the end, Hermione has a long way to go. Which is why I’m writing the sequel. 🙂 Oh, and if you are looking for the outcome of it all? It’s already written and posted in the short story “Candyfloss Days”.

You *rock on* !! Wow *claps* absolutely amazing *in awe* … why do we humans have to eat and sleep??? *hypnotized* Really I just hate that I couldn’t keep reading… I could said that it’s in my top 5 of SS/HG stories… and I think I have read a pretty good amount… and its making a hard fight for the 1st place 😉

Sometimes (I think) that you’ve got lost or that maybe it wasn’t important or was irrelevant some info that you put *hmm* but for the rest: very good written… well there were some specific words that I didn’t understand ‘cause my language is Spanish, so was a bit trickier *clueless* but otherwise the reading absorb me a possess me in a way that it was impossible to stop reading.

I truly love The ending…it’s just perfect. As the others said, it’s a more real ending… you can’t enter death and get out exactly as you came, if you’re going to make a sacrifice for wizards ´benefit, so you’ve got to pay a high fee, no matter who you are… then you just got to keep walking, keep going with the life that you’ve got now… past is always past, we need to be able to look back and learn about it but never stay there, keep moving, make the present for a better future.

I’m happy you enjoyed the story, especially that you liked the ending. I know that many readers would have liked a perfectly happy ending, but that just didn’t feel right to me.

Sometimes (I think) that you’ve got lost or that maybe it wasn’t important or was irrelevant some info

Hmm, no, I don’t think so. The information I put in was definitely always important, unless it was a “red herring” inserted specifically to get readers on the wrong track. And no, I definitely didn’t get lost; I always had a plan for the story from start to finish and I followed it through.

I think what you are referring to is the episodical character of a penny dreadful. Written in very short episodes, each individual episode must contribute a story of its own to the whole. Therefore there are a lot of details and little scenes that would not appear in a story in a different formatting.

I understand if you didn’t like that at times, but I can assure you it was absolutely intentional on my part.

  8. Eilenn says:

I absolutely loved your story, it reminded me why I stopped reading fanfiction – it’s really addictive and too engrossing to think about doing anything else but reading, reading and reading till the and.
‘The Apprentice and the Necromancer’ really held me captive for a few nights so – Congratulations! Well done 😉

    • JunoMagic says:

Thank you for reading and for taking the time to leave a comment. I’m always happy to hear that one of my stories has kept people up way too late reading!

      I’m glad you enjoyed. 🙂

  9. Hannah says:

This is one of the best stories I have ever read. So emotional and so clever with so many twists and turns. I’ve never read anything about necromancers but you make them fit into the HP world so well.

Absolutely brilliant, thank you for sharing this.

  10. Cytherea says:

Wow!! This was amazing. Such a moving story! And you’ve done a fantastic job with all of the sub-plots. I especially enjoyed your OCs, Alina and Lois, and your use of the Abhorsen trilogy’s mythos. Man, I love those books, too. 🙂

    Thanks for writing!

    • JunoMagic says:

You are very welcome! 🙂 Thank you for spending time with my story and even taking the time to leave a comment. I’m especially happy to hear that you liked my original characters—they are very dear to my heart!
