Banshee

A banshee stands wailing in a loch before a setting sun

Banshee

No three wishes – over the loch the sun sinks – nor a dream come true – a breeze the water stirs – to offer you – the sedge darkens – no lucky clover, no magic fishes – lonely and empty lie barren the hills – not even a wild rover – cold the gloaming comes – to keep you warm – near a storm draws – until winter’s over.

Cannot strengthen your arm – weak, hapless – or bring you harm – feeble, and oh, helpless – cannot spirit you away – all choices gone, hopeless – or hold you under my sway – lost, lonely, alone – no silver steed to ride – no solution, no escape found – no thirty silver pennies to hide.

But – wailing – when your voice breaks – weeping – when your heart aches – keening – when your tears run dry – screaming – I give you my cry.

Banshee.

…and my wish for you today is:

That in your hour of need, when your tears are gone, but your pain is not, someone may be there to hold you and cry for you.
