Vampire

‘You want what?’ the master-vampire stared at the little girl, aghast.

The child looked up at him fearlessly. Her incissors glittered pearlescent in the candle light. ‘I really, really want a sunflower,’ she chirped, lisping slightly.

The master-vampire glowered at the men responsible for the child-vampire’s existence. ‘And this,’ he pontificated, ‘is exactly why we DO NOT turn children. They … develop strange needs.’

The men shrugged. ‘We get that – now,’ the smaller one said at last. ‘But, master, where ever shall we get a sunflower? We are creatures of the night!’

The master-vampire glared. The men ducked. The little girl grinned.

‘I shall … take care of that,’ the master vampire announced.

‘Thank you, master, oh thank you!’ The two vampires nearly fell over each other trying to kiss their master’s hands.

‘I’m hungry,’ piped up the girl. ‘Can we have kitten now?’

The vampires winced and quickly dragged the girl away, before the master vampire would get truly angry.

The master-vampire waited impatiently until they were far enough away so they could not see, hear, smell, or feel where he would go. He knew exactly where he could get sunflowers, even though it was past midnight and December. But it was a secret that no other vampire must ever find out.

Because it simply wouldn’t do for the members of his clan to discover that the master-vampire was friends with a very female, very human, and very much alive botanist because he was so very fond of orchids.

…and my wish for you today is:

Allow yourself to need. Even if it’s a sunflower in the middle of December. I hope that now and again, you will find what you need. And better yet, someone who shares this need with you.
