No three wishes – over the loch<\/em> the sun sinks <\/em>– nor a dream come true – a breeze the water<\/em> stirs<\/em> – to offer you – the sedge darkens<\/em> – no lucky clover, no magic fishes – lonely and empty lie barren<\/em> the hills <\/em>– not even a wild rover – cold the gloaming<\/em> comes<\/em> – to keep you warm – near a storm draws <\/em>– until winter’s over.<\/p>\n

Cannot strengthen your arm – weak, hapless<\/em> – or bring you harm – feeble, and oh, helpless<\/em> – cannot spirit you away – all choices gone,<\/em> hopeless <\/em>– or hold you under my sway – lost, lonely, alone<\/em> – no silver steed to ride – no solution, no escape found<\/em> – no thirty silver pennies to hide.<\/em><\/p>\n

But – wailing<\/em> – when your voice breaks – weeping<\/em> – when your heart aches – keening<\/em> – when your tears run dry – screaming<\/em> – I give you my cry.<\/p>\n
