(What Grandpa told the Children)<\/p>\n

The moon? It is a griffin’s egg,
\nHatching to-morrow night.
\nAnd how the little boys will watch
\nWith shouting and delight
\nTo see him break the shell and stretch
\nAnd creep across the sky.
\nThe boys will laugh. The little girls,
\nI fear, may hide and cry.
\nYet gentle will the griffin be,
\nMost decorous and fat,
\nAnd walk up to the milky way
\nAnd lap it like a cat.<\/p>\n

\nClaws scratching the night sky like shooting stars
\nFlying like a thunder cloud
\nHe strikes like lightning.<\/p>\n
