starts the “(Inter-)National Poetry Month 2008” off with a poem about mythical creatures:<\/p>\n

“The gilded cages of Byzantium”<\/a> by <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

and reminds me of another poem that she discovered way back in 2005 and that I first posted on my LiveJournal on April 12, 2005. It’s a poem about fantasy and myth and dreams and imagination, and I loved it so much that I created icons for it.<\/p>\n

INPM presents great opportunity to renew the acquaintance, don’t you think? And maybe some of you would like to meet it, too.<\/p>\n

So let me introduce you to “Forever”, a fantasy poem that was probably written by a lady known online as “Lady Lauren Christine”.<\/p>\n

FOREVER<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am young enough for the fairies to play tag with me.
\nAnd to tug on my hair when I’m not looking.
\nI am small enough to dance with butterflies,
\nTo fly with them sometimes if I close my eyes tight
\nenough.
\nI am quiet enough to hear the trees sing,
\nAnd they do sing, about the sky and ages long past.
\nI am child enough to swim into Atlantis…
\nWith the mermaids at my side,
\nAnd the dolphins at my feet.
\nI am trusting enough to go to the end of the rainbow,
\nAnd find the leprechauns
\nAnd their stories,
\nNot to mention the gold.
\nI have enough dreams to fly
\nAnd float out to the moon,
\nBut of course I stop to chat with the stars.
\nI talk with my angel,
\nAnd she sings me to sleep.
\nI love to ride on the unicorn’s backs,
\nAnd sing along with the elves.
\nThe centaurs whisper into my ears the knowledge
\nOf the stars.
\nThe brownies race with me through the forest,
\nTheir hands linked with mine.
\nI sit at the dragon’s feet while she speaks to me
\nIn all the languages of the world, and what’s more,
\nI understand her.
\nI take rides on the backs of Griffins,
\nAnd they fly me into enchanted forests where the
\nImps pretend to zoom around me,
\nBut I’m not scared.
\nI make my wishes to the Jinn, who are not really bad.
\nThe Kirin walk in the pastures with me,
\nAnd let me put daisy chains around their necks.
\nThe Naga taught me how to make those.
\nI fly to Treasure Island on the back of Pegasus,
\nAnd talk to the parrots living there.
\nThe Queen of Storybook Land holds me in her arms,
\nAnd tells me about the tales she has read.
\nThe Roane leave their seal skins on the shore,
\nAnd dance with me on the beach.
\nI play tunes on the satyr’s pipes
\nWhile they clap and dance about.
\nThe treante shift out of their tree forms
\nTo hug me with their branches.
\nI soar the heights with the Wyvern
\nAnd the Xylo-Fae come out of their trees to
\nTickle me until I can’t stop laughing.
\nI visit the Yeti in the mountains where they live,
\nAnd they wrap me up tight so I’m not cold.<\/p>\n

And then the Zephyr comes to carry me home,
\nBut when I get there, I still believe in forever.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
