December 29 – An Elvish Blessing

your paradiseBased on “Sailing to the Sunrise” by jefras at stock.XCHANG.

In the high halls beyond the West
Beneath the blue vaults of Varda tremble the stars
in the song of her voice, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
Hoping that you shall find Valimar and that your cup shall ever be filled.

(a blessing in Quenya based on Galadriel’s song of Eldamar by J.R.R. Tolkien)

“Galadriel’s Song of Eldamar” by The Tolkien Ensemble

I wrote a story about a holy well in Middle-earth once, and for that story I needed a blessing in Quenya. What I came up with is the blessing of this post. In modern days the last line would probably translate as:

“In the hope that you shall find your paradise
and that your cup shall ever be filled.”

You can read the story here, if you want to. (But I warn you, it’s not very good.)

The pictures you included with these blessings have been as amazing as the blessings themselves!

Lovely to have an Elvish blessing, and the song that goes with it is one I haven’t heard before, so thanks! I’m impressed with anyone who attempts Elvish translation. 😉

I’ve bookmarked that tale of yours, and I shall read it before the year is out!

Ah, I love the Tolkien Ensemble.

Yes! Tolkien Ensemble is awesome! 🙂

(I think I love the album “At Dawn in Rivendell” best. Beautiful songs, and Christopher Lee. That voice is sooo shiver-me-timbers.)

Lovely to have an Elvish blessing,

Well, as I met a good part of my flist because of Tolkien fanfic, I really wanted to include an Elvish blessing.

And then I remembered that story … *g*

I’m not really good at Quenya (the grammar is quite demanding), but I do know a fair bit about Sindarin. I’ve even written Sindarin poetry, a collection of Sindarin tanka. Crazy, huh?

All of these have really been wonderful, Juno. I should have commented sooner! Thank you for bringing some beauty and peace into a world that sometimes is quite short on those very things. Sometimes it probably seems no one notices or appreciates the little (or big) things, but it all adds to the love and light of life and that is a pretty great thing. 🙂 Thank you for all you do.
